The Night Before the BRC

So last Thursday, the day before the Burnet Road Challenge, an old college friend was in town. He lives in NYC and I haven’t seen him since my brother lived there. Think it was about 3 New Year’s Eves ago. Anyway, Michael and his girlfriend made a quick trip to Texas …but they were only in Austin 1 day. I planned on taking it easy and going home relatively early so I’d be 100% for the BRC. Well, that didn’t happen!

It all started when Tehra and Joe came to pick me up. Now these 2 are also old college buds of mine who live right around the corner from me. But they have 2 little kids now, so I rarely see them. As luck would have it, they had already pre-arranged for the kids to be visiting the grandparents in Houston this weekend, so they were ready for a kid-free night on the town. Anyway, we headed downtown and meet up with Michael and Missy at Casino el Camino.
This was one of the places on their list of things to do that Michael’s brother made for them. After many many beers here, we decided to hit up Club de Ville. On the way I made them pop into Lovejoy’s for a beer and a shot. Jager and tequila…yum yum.

Upon arriving at Club de Ville, we noticed a band setting up. And if you’ve never been to this place, it’s got a cool backdrop.

Nice big outdoor area…we even found some empty couches! I really liked the band that night, but who knows if I heard them sober. I met some friend of the band who texted me the name since it was so weird and long and my drunk ass couldn’t remember it! Speaking of, I need to go find that in my phone……

Techno and Biker Jen (Our college nicknames)

And no, I'm not wearing a white bra....it's blue! Damn flash....

Needless to say, I did NOT make it home early and I did NOT take it easy on the drinking. But hey, I hadn’t seen these friends in ages. Oh well.

All the pics are here.

P.S. Work on Friday SUCKED!

Built to Spill Rocked!!!

So what's new, I'm behind on posting pics. Who has time to keep up with this every day? Anyway, so on Friday, Oct 20, Lesley and I went to see an awesome band at Stubb's. But first, we stopped in at Lovejoy's for a few beverages...and shots. Ok, I was the only one who did a shot of tequila with my new friend Bruce. Tried to take a pic with him but my dang camera was fussy that night. A little closer to show time, Lesley, ASSer Jeff and I headed over to Bull McCabe's. On the way over, we ran into DEAD WHORE DAVE and JUST COTTON. They were hoping to make the late shift at LJ's, but everyone had already left so they joined us.

Soon after it was time to go inside Stubb's for the show! Lesley and I squeezed our way up to the front...3rd row!

BTS was totally awesome...they sound wonderful live!
You can view all the pics here.

Istanbul...

...was Constantinople. Now it's Istanbul, Not Constantinople.....

Man, I love the Flashback lunch hour on 101x. Always brings back good songs from my high school and college days. Anyone else out there remember a band called They Might Be Giants?

I heard their Istanbul (Not Constantinople) song today and it always makes me laugh. :)

Lyrics are here.

I also love the Birdhouse In Your Soul song. I know what I'm downloading from iTunes later....

Mia - one week shy of 6 months!

My brother fed Mia baby food for the first time last week. Can't wait to see them over Thanksgiving. And hey, Mia and I have something in common....we both like to eat...look at how happy she is!

Friday the 13th

I went to an old school bar in Austin on Friday the 13th. I've driven by it a bunch of times throughout my life, but have never been. It looks like a shack that could collapse at any moment. Most of the tables on the upper deck area are all warped and rickety...the kind where it's easier to just hold your beer than to keep watch on it in case the table wobbles and your beer spills over. But you know what? I thoroughly enjoyed myself! Had a great time hanging out...and the sunset view was nice as well.

What was this dive bar? Dry Creek Saloon.

Too bad I missed out on seeing the old lady though...now it's her son that runs the place. So I never had her bark at me to "bring your bottles back down!"

After Dry Creek, we headed over to the Hovii house to order pizza. Hovis was pouring us straight whiskey drinks...think I had 3 of them. I ended up crashing in their spare bedroom because it wasn't wise for me to drive at that point, especially since they live off of 2222. What a great, impromptu happy hour evening!

Bye Chlamydia & Hello Hashtoberfest

Chlamydia left Austin again and went back up north. We gathered for dinner on October 3.

Here are a few pics.

The weekend of Oct 6-8 was Hashtoberfest down in Port Aransas. What a great time! We stopped in at dive bars along the drive down, barely made it to the Gilligan's Island pub crawl, had way too many shots at some bar, fell while walking, tried to sleep outside the tent, woke up with a bloody knee and leg, played flippy cup for 5 hours on the gambling boat, laughed at KY wrestling and felt yucky on the long drive home. Oh yeah! And I got to see all of my Colorado Kimchi buds. Go Team Brass Monkey!!!

Pics from Hashtoberfest 2006 are here.

Trying to catch up

Ok, so I’m pretty behind in posting pics. I just got tired of doing write-ups and spending my free time at home blogging. So, I’m just gonna post a bunch of links to the pics all in one post...

So back at the end of August, an El Paso hasher was in town on business and wanted to go drinking. We put together a little happy hour for him since he was so nice and got a group to drink with me and Wet Spot when we were in El Paso before CoTex. Anyway, it turned into a fun pub crawl.

Pics from HH pub crawl are here.

Three days later was the Keep Austin Weird 5K. I must say that it royally sucked this year. The new race course had no local businesses and bars along the way. The only thing to do during the run was stop at the little booths set up along the way to taste test samples. All of my friends just ran the whole thing. Not me! I stopped at every single location. Hellooooo, one of the booths gave away chocolate chip cookie dough. Hells yeah! Overall, it was quite boring. Nobody even really wanted to party afterwards...except for my Budweiser buddy Richy. What’s up with that? LAME. At least my group started the whole thing at a LOCAL business, instead of like others who went to Hooter's.

Pics to the KAW5K are here.

The next weekend was Colorado Invihash and I already posted those pics.... :)

The night before the Ohio State Buckeyes beat the Longhorns (hahaha), there was a concert at Waterloo Park. One of the main sponsors was Plucker’s…so I got a pass for the VIP area. Free beer and food from Plucker’s. Thanks Kristin! The highlight of the night would have to be meeting Robert Earl Keen and getting a photo taken with him. What a nice guy…and an A&M grad! He and Lyle Lovett used to be roommates in college and they’d play their guitars on the porch and write songs, FYI.

Pics from the Throwdown are here.

Several of us met on Sept. 28 to get the ball rolling on the Burnet Road Challenge 2006 run. Had dinner at Billy’s and then headed to Ginny’s for the planning part. When I walked in and saw Grabber with a full bottle of whiskey on the table, I knew it was gonna be a long night! Also, I discovered that Dale Watson was playing later that evening. Hadn’t seen him perform in ages. We got the nitty gritty discussions out of the way and then partied the night away…drinking at the table and scootin’ a boot on the dance floor. We even recruited some random folks to run in the BRC. What a great evening. :)

Pics from the BRC planning are here.

On Sept 30, I spent most of the day in Georgetown watching my cousin play in a basketball tournament. Then we had a family dinner at a local burger joint, Phil's Icehouse. Then I took my Aunt and cousin to my place so they could crash. Then I peeled myself off the couch and tried to hit 2 parties…but I was tired and full and didn’t feel like drinking. I made it over to Tuck It and DBD’s house for Penile Probe’s welcome back from Iraq party, but unfortunately, I never made it over to Bitch, James Bitch’s birthday party. I got to the first one pretty late to begin with. Oh well, as you can see, I wasn’t really in party pic mode this evening. But check out the special dancer’s DBD hired for PP!

PP’s party pics are here.

More to come....

BTS!!!

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Ok, so I bought my ticket for the Built to Spill concert. Whoo-hoo! It's this Friday night at Stubb's. Anyone interested? If so, meet me there! Right now I've got 3 people who have said 'maybe' and one co-worker who gets back in town that night who might swing by as well. If I'm by myself, no problem, but shows are always more fun with friends. :)

Never heard of BTS? Well, go here to check them out! Or even here.

Go buy a ticket here. They're $20. Doors at 7pm.

P.S. One of my 'maybes' is a yes! And another friend is meeting us for pre-drinks. Whoo-hoo!

Basketball on Kyle Field!

Check it out. Coach Gillispie came up with a great idea. He brought hoops to A&M's football field during Midnight Yell. Wish I could've been there!

Check out Maroon Madness here.

Numb toe/blogging pains

Ok, so apparently I wasn't made to stand in 4 inch spike heels with pointy toes for 14 hours. I wore these super tall shoes to my annual work conference last Tuesday. Now I'm used to wearing 3 inch heels to work, but they aren't spiked and are square at the toe, so they don't ever bother me. On Wednesday evening, I felt a numbness in my left middle toe...and it is still like that today. Anyone else ever mess with a nerve ending like that? How long did it take to get back to normal?

Yeah, I know...you're probably wondering where all the pictures are that I need to post. I just haven't felt like blogging much lately. Am I bored with it already after only one year? Could it be that I feel like I'm never at home anymore and when I do finally get home, the last thing I want to do is work on a write-up. Maybe this week I'll just post links to all the pictures I have, but won't do a write-up. That sounds like a plan!

Cool?

On Your Knees!

Bye Hickey, I still love ya!

I'm so sad! Ok, so maybe it was necessary....but I hate to see the hot pitching coach for the Astros get fired!

Article is here.

This is how close I got one day during batting practice. Yum yum.

Go see this movie!

As I was driving home from work Monday night, I got a call from a friend who had a free movie pass to a sneak preview. I am soooooo glad I went. What an awesome movie! Great cast, marvelous acting, great plot with unexpected turns and of course, some violence. I mean, it is a Scorsese film.

So this Friday, October 6, go see this movie! You will not regret it! Just don't necessarily take your kids...

Cops or Criminals, when you're facing a loaded gun what's the difference?

P.S. Be warned that this movie is 2.5 hours long, so don't down several beers before you go and then order a big ol' Diet Coke once you arrive at the theater.....
P.P.S. I added a pic of the movie poster since some wanker didn't know how to click on the above link to show which movie I was talking about.
