The Bass Says Bye-Bye

I used to go to these Momo's shows all the time back in the day! Looks like I need to make an appearance tomorrow night.....

Note from the South Austin Jug Band:

Kids, our long time friend and upright bass player Mr. Will Dupuy, will be playing his last show with us this saturday May 26th at momo's. Momo's is where it all started, almost 7 years ago. I had a weekly gig at momo's and didnt have a band, Will came and saved the day and has been the most solid guy to be friends with and play along side with, we will all miss him SOOOOOOO much.So come on out and help us celebrate 7 years of playing! This will be fun!! no bs.

Drunk w/Co-workers

So yesterday we had our big "session is almost over" party for our hospital lobbyists. It started around 4pm-ish and I stayed until almost 9pm. How could I leave all of that free alcohol and food?? I know the AD pub run was last night and I thought I'd make the first bar and then I'd go meet Kristin at the Alamo Drafthouse for the Jiggy Crunk 90's Pop Rap Sing-a-long. Well, she had to cancel, so that just meant I stayed at my work party for a loooooong time. Would've stayed longer, but I got talked into meeting up with some friends at Doc's Motorworks. But hey, I was one of the last 3 still partying it up.

OH yeah, and I found a new love. Had Glenlivet single malt scotch for the first time last night. DEE-LISH!!!

Speaking of Daddy's Day Weekend.....

JUNE 16th is the KEEP AUSTIN WEIRD FEST AND 5K RUN!

The 2007 Keep Austin Weird Fest is Austin's celebration of all people, places and things that make Austin unique. Taking place on Saturday, June 16th, for the first time the run is moving downtown with Republic Square Park as the festival location.

Tickets to the festival and concert are available online and at any local GetTix location like Waterloo Records. Gates open at noon, with music and fun from 12:00-10:00 PM. Passes will get you in to see Bob Schneider, Alejandro Escovedo, Soulhat, South Austin Jug Band, Patricia Vonne, The Steps, and Amy Cook.

In addition to a great day of Music, the Chronicle's Best of Austin Biz-aar will feature great local retailers, food and other businesses like the Alamo Draft House Movie Tent, 1379 Kids Zone, Austin Farmer's Market, Lambert's, Amy's Ice Cream, Salt Lick, Austin's Pizza, Amy's Ice Cream and much more. Waterloo will be out selling CDs for the performing artists, as well.

So come join me for the Weird Fest and 5K on Saturday, then come hash my trail on Sunday!

Scouting Fun

Last night I had planned on heading over to the Hike & Bike Trail to run, but that didn't happen. I started realizing I needed to scout several locations I have in mind for my upcoming trail. So I got some info from the web that I needed and hit 3 places last night...2 new and 1 old. Hiked, jogged and explored. Some portions were elevated and some were flat. Great scenery too. Hopefully I can get 2 of these places to safely connect...then I have a trail ready to go for June 17! Yes, I'm haring on Daddy's Day.

I still have several other areas that I want to scout as well. So who knows what part of town my trail will actually end up in.

At least my lazy ass got in some exercise. I did 45 minutes total of hiking and running. When I got home at 8:30pm it was dark, so I decided to go run for a quick 15 minutes on the treadmill at my condo's gym so that I had a full hour of exercise. Once at home, I did crunches and squats. I always feel like a tard doing squats...like I'm doing them incorrectly. Oh well....I tried!

I can't wait to check out some more trails this weekend!

ASS Hunt Weekend

I spent Saturday and Sunday at Lake Travis for the Annual A.S.S. Hunt. I am still tired, but had a wonderful time. Still feel like I'm rocking on a boat while I'm typing this at my desk. Hopefully I can get the pics downloaded during lunch.

Please stop the rocking and swaying motion because it's making me want to get back on the lake!

Stop the Press!

You aren't gonna believe it, but I actually went jogging around my neighborhood last night. I got a little freaked when I realized I'll be in Colorado in 3 weeks.....the altitude, running up mountains...that's gonna be tough. So I have to see what I can do these next few weeks. I just haven't been in the running mood lately. All I've done this week is jump roped inside my condo a couple of nights. Nothing spectacular. You'd think I'd do better at jump roping since I won the Presidential fitness contest for jump roping at my school. Hells yeah I did. Ok, so that was back in 5th grade......

Anyway, I wouldn't call it running, but I jog/walked for 35 minutes around my neighborhood. I mean, come on....it was GORGEOUS outside! How could I not? I love this cool front that came in and made the hi temp for the week 82-83. It must have been in the low 70's when I started at 7:45pm. I have no idea how far I went since I don't have a fancy schmancy Garmin, but who cares. I finally got off my lazy ass!

Remembering a Friend

On May 8th, my friend Margaret had a bunch of friends and family over to her house for a backyard BBQ. It was on Mark's birthday. He is her husband who passed away right before Thanksgiving last year from colon cancer. He loved getting together with friends in settings like this, so she thought it would be the perfect thing to do. Mark's parents drove in from Dallas and his brother from Rhode Island even flew in. He has another brother who lives here in Austin, so of course he was there as well. And Margaret's cousin in Dallas came to town too, in addition to all of M&M's Austin friends. It was really great seeing everyone...some I hadn't seen since the funeral.

I didn't take any pictures that night, so I'm attaching some previous ones.

Mark and his old roommates...they started the JC Penney catalog pose photos!

Mark loved the water.

JC Penney poses are hilarious!

Cinco de Mayo Hash

Gonna try to briefly post pics and update you on what's been going on.....

The pics from Smegma’s Cinco de Mayo Pinata Hash are here. It started to slightly rain right at the beginning, so I didn’t run with my camera, which sucked because of course that didn’t last long at all! Since I didn’t run with my camera though, I missed out on getting pictures of the 1st piñata bashing at the beer check. Don’t worry, plenty more of the 2nd and 3rd piñatas! Anyway, I hadn't been to a hash in a while due to other stuff going on and I enjoyed this one...until I realized I forgot my soccer socks. The beginning had a lot of shiggy and water...what do you know...I got poison ivy on my. Next time I'll remember my tall socks!!!

The trail ended at Smegma Ball's house. Wow....super cool place. He had delicious fajitas, chips and dips, orange food, a spice cake, tons of beer and 2 pinatas. Oh yeah, and a pool. Good times, but I was super beat. Guess I need to get back into shape. (brownie is laughing at this remark right now!)

Trip to Arlington

Ok, so I know I'm behind, but I don't always have time during lunch to blog. And now, I don't have access to the internet from my condo...at the moment. Anyway, on May 1, my co-worker and I drove up to Arlington for our big fundraising event. I had never been on a road trip with her and was a little worried about how I'd handle the trip because she likes to talk...a lot! She had also mentioned getting a book on tape...which could be cool, but I didn't have any idea what she'd bring.

So we finally hit the road at 11am and I immediately think to myself that it's gonna be a LONG trip. She doesn't keep her foot on the pedal the entire time. It's like she gives it a little gas, lets off, then gives it gas again, repeat. Holy hell! Seriously?? I thought I might end up with more gray hairs, but I never said anything. Argh. We actually chatted quite a bit and that was pleasant. Then we put in her book on tape. A Salty Piece Of Land, by Jimmy Buffett. I didn't get into it right away because I've never ever listened to a book on tape and just couldn't get into it. But then I tried to actually listen, rather than try to sleep. Turns out, I really liked it! But there were about 6-8 CDs. No way we'd get through all of them. Especially since she kept turning it off to say something or concentrate during the insane thunderstorm that we hit in Waco. Then she'd turn it back on. On, off, on, off, on, off.

Next thing I know, we're in Arlington. Drove up to the offices of our Corporate Member and unloaded everything. Got everything set up, rushed over to our hotel (which was a whole 2 minutes away), had 30 minutes to change clothes and get ready, then headed back for the event.

View from my hotel: Rangers Stadium

I used to go to this 6 Flags all the time as a kid!

Ok, so these offices are in the stadium of the Rangers baseball team. Was totally cool. Now all they need to do is get a 2nd office at Minute Maid Park! :)

View from 2nd floor of their offices!

Apparently, there is no bathroom door in the visiting team's bullpen.

Once the game ended, the employees wanted to watch the end of the Mavericks game. Fine with me...there was tons of free liquor! So we hung out and drank more. Eventually, it was just me, my co-worker and one SBL employee. We ended up chatting and drinking away in the big, comfy chairs of the conference room until 2am! Luckily, my co-worker had already said that we were checking out at the final check out time.....11am. So I knew I could sleep in a little.

We made it back to Austin while listening to more of the book on tape. I'm hooked and now need to borrow it from her, or just go buy the actual book! But I think it'd be cool to listen to the book on tape while commuting to work. I need to talk to her about borrowing it.....

P.S. Did I mention that May 1st was my niece's birthday and I called my brother and his wife after many Bushmills on the rocks with a splash of water?? Niiiiiiice. I'm the drunk Aunt.

It's Cinco de Mayo!!!

Happy Cinco de Mayo everyone! I've got 3 parties to hit today. Sure hope I can stop by all of them. First up, the Crawfish de Mayo in Bastrop. Since I don't eat those nasty bugs, I'm bringing Mexican cornbread. Yum yum. Better go finish cooking!

Have a fun and safe weekend. :)

p.s. More on the trip to Arlington later...

Happy B-day Mia!

Here is a pic from her first birthday party. :)

My little niece turns 1 year old today. Wish I could be there to help celebrate, but my next trip to Miami isn't until July. :(

Hope she likes all the clothes I sent her!
